Visionary Leader | Cultural Preservationist | Social Entrepreneur
Oladapo Agboola is an award-winning Nigerian visual artist, cultural educator, and the founder of the OLADAPO Authentic African Art Development Foundation. Born and raised in Osogbo, a city deeply rooted in artistic and Adire traditions, his life and work are shaped by culture, creativity, and a strong commitment to community development.
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I founded the OLADAPO Authentic African Art Development Foundation out of a deep belief that culture, when preserved and practiced, can change lives. Growing up in Osogbo, I witnessed how traditional skills, especially Adire textile making, were passed down through observation, practice, and community. I also experienced firsthand how access to structured learning and mentorship can transform natural talent into sustainable opportunity.
My vision is to create a platform where children and young people are empowered with practical, creative skills that give them dignity, self-reliance, and a sense of purpose. I believe that education must go hand in hand with vocational training, and that indigenous knowledge should be valued not only as cultural heritage but also as a tool for economic empowerment.
Through this foundation, we are committed to preserving Adire and other African art forms while equipping the next generation with skills that can provide livelihoods, reduce dependency, and inspire pride in their identity. Our goal is not only to teach art, but to build confidence, nurture discipline, and open pathways for young creatives to thrive both locally and globally.
This foundation reflects my journey, what I grew up with, what I was privileged to formally learn, and what I now choose to give back. By sharing knowledge, we strengthen communities, protect our culture, and create lasting impact for generations to come.
The Adire Revival project is more than a training program, it's a movement. It's about reclaiming our heritage, restoring dignity to those who have been marginalized, and building a future where African traditional arts are celebrated globally. It's about proving that our culture isn't just something to be preserved in museums, but a living, breathing force that can create economic prosperity and social transformation.
I invite you to join us on this journey. Whether you choose to support us financially, volunteer your time, participate in our workshops, or simply spread the word about our mission, you become part of something bigger than yourself. Together, we are writing a new chapter in the story of Nigerian culture, one where tradition meets innovation, where poverty is replaced by prosperity, and where every person has the opportunity to thrive.
With deep gratitude and unwavering commitment,
Oladapo Adeoye
Founder & Creative Director
Oladapo Authentic African Art Development Foundation
Born and raised in Osogbo, Oladapo grew up immersed in Yoruba cultural traditions. His grandmother, a renowned Adire artisan, introduced him to the art form at an early age. Her stories about the symbolic meanings behind each pattern and the patience required to create each piece instilled in him a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
Oladapo pursued formal education in Yoruba language & Cultural studies, where he researched the historical and economic significance of traditional African textiles. His thesis focused on the decline of traditional crafts and potential pathways for revival through social entrepreneurship. This academic work laid the foundation for what would later become the Adire Revival project.
Before founding the foundation, Oladapo spent several years working with various NGOs and community development organizations across Nigeria. This experience exposed him to the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, unemployment, poverty, lack of skills training, and loss of cultural identity. He recognized that addressing these issues required an innovative approach that combined cultural preservation with practical empowerment.
In 2020, inspired by his grandmother's legacy and armed with years of experience in community development, Oladapo established the Oladapo Authentic African Art Development Foundation. The Adire Revival project became the flagship program, designed to preserve Yoruba cultural heritage while providing sustainable livelihood opportunities to marginalized communities. What started as a small workshop has grown into a movement touching hundreds of lives.
"I believe every person deserves the opportunity to earn a living with dignity. Skills training isn't charity, it's empowerment. When we teach someone Adire, we're giving them the tools to transform their own life."
"Our cultural heritage isn't just history, it's valuable economic capital. When we preserve Adire, we're not looking backward; we're creating sustainable businesses and connecting our youth to their identity."
"Real change happens when communities take ownership. We don't just come in and teach, we partner with communities, listen to their needs, and co-create solutions that work for their unique contexts."
Oladapo and the entire team welcome partnerships, collaborations, and support from individuals and organizations who share our vision. Together, we can preserve culture, empower lives, and transform communities.
